Message from [dedge_at_math.uiuc.edu,ime_at_panix.com as] France to France in
'teachme3':
Comments on results:
The destruction of Russia's southern fleet will make it easier for an RT
alliance to grow quickly, if they can resolve their hostilities. It's easy
to anticipate that current wars and alliances will continue, but in a good
Dip game, wars end and new alliances are formed. It's useful to at least
consider the possibilities and effects of those changes, and often to
intervene to influence them in ways that help you.
You've moved north, and will be vulnerable in the south until the English
war is resolved. An AI alliance while RT continue to fight will be bad, as
Italy will tend to come after France (he'd have no help in attacking Austria
assmuing RT are too worried about each other; an attack on Turkey might
delay him, but he'd emerge from it stronger and more dangerous). You'd
prefer Italy be locked into a long slow war against Turkey. RT vs AI often
deadlocks in a way that would benefit you, but if you can't bring that
about, RI vs AT may serve a similar purpose. You did send press pursuing
the latter; don't assume the former is impossible.
About a stop-the-leader anti-Austrian alliance -- I don't see that as nearly
as helpful to you. Once Austria dies, the southeast becomes two-on-one, and
will probably resolve faster than you'd like (although resolving into RT v I
isn't too bad.)
England sees two forms of hostile action: he was bounced in Belgium by
Germany, and he is being invaded by you. The invasion has higher priority,
which will give Germany a choice of allies. But England is untalkative,
too, so may have trouble taking advantage of that.
You've already sent press that may make it difficult to pursue, but you
could try to do an elephant-and-whale arrangement with Germany, which would
have him building armies rather than fleets, and you building fleets rather
than armies. So, build fleets in both Mar and Bre, move Mar to Spa in
spring and Mid in fall (Por would hold in spring, while Spa moved to Gas).
Germany would build armies in preparation for invading Russia. It requires
that you trust Germany (a German move to Burgundy wounds you deeply), and
that Italy not overreact to the Marseilles fleet build. Your chosen builds,
and the Kiel fleet you've suggested to Germany, are more conventional, and
safer, but lead to slower development.
