I'm glad to see that you put in orders with Set Wait, it's always the polite
thing to do, and as default orders these probably make the most sense
for Russia. If I might ask, what's your goal for this game? Some people
view a Solo as the only good result, while others are more interested in
having fun, talking to people, and trying to survive until the end of the
game and get into the Draw. Others play hoping to win, but playing
safe thinking it's better to Draw than to lose. So, you have to consider
not only your own goal for the game, but also what the other Powers
are hoping to do. If you assume they have the same motivation that
you do, you could be in for a rude surprise.
There are a lot of Russian strategy articles at:
http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/resources/strategy/russia.htm
Conventional wisdom suggests that Russia either solos quickly, or gets
eliminated, but I played Russia in the 2000 Vermont Group Full-Press
Tournament Championship game, 'titleist' (The press and the movement
results are available at: http://ry4an.org/dippouch/titleist/, though the
maps
aren't there, yet), and was reduced to 3 Centers in 1902, but hung on to
get back to 8 Centers and share in the Draw, so I don't see Russia as an
All or Nothing deal..
Eric.
